Thank You

Five years ago today, Studio Eldeen Handmade Art became an official business, and I, a Business Owner.

I've never owned a business before. I've never even been a Manager before. I knew, but didn't really understand, that starting my own business meant I'd have to fill all the roles of a business myself. Not only am I the Artist, I'm also the Sales Rep, Customer Service Rep, Social Media Manager, Marketing Specialist, Website Designer, Project Manager, Product Manager, Finance Manager, Accountant, Logistics Coordinator, and head of HR. It was overwhelming getting all the pieces in place.

I've made plenty of mistakes and learned valuable lessons from each of them. I've learned so many new skills and techniques. My material literacy has grown, as has my collection of supplies, tools, and equipment.

I’ve made some stupid things, cool things, boring things, weird things, things I’m incredibly proud of, and things that just went right into the trash. I’ve been able to spread the love I’ve received from my customers to charities and organizations that make a difference in my community.

I’ve had incredible experiences along the way. I was Artist Guest of Honor at ICON 48. I became the first (as far as I know) person to make a Masonic polyhedral dice set. My husband became a Mason because of that project. The first set of those dice, my art, lives in the Iowa Masonic Library and Museum alongside the likes of Grant Wood. Ten-year-old me would never believe that.

I've had some low spots, some difficulties, some moments where I thought I should just pack it all in and give up. I'm sure every small business owner has those moments. With the never-ending support of my amazing husband, I found a way through the clouds to the sunshine again.

I've met the best people, traveled to places I never thought I would go, and have grown so much as a person. Thank you to everyone who has supported me, encouraged me, helped me, and challenged me. I could not be here without you.

I'm excited for all the possibilities the next 5 years has in store.

Employer Identification Number notice from IRS dated 1-13-2021.
